When Ronn Coldiron of Glencorrie Winery was in Seattle last fall he stopped by Dish it up! to do a Meet the Winemaker event. He quickly noted that wine is just one of the many alluring facets of the shop. The exhibition kitchen beckoned. He sliced a sample of his crusty baguette for me while explaining how he could do a bread baking demo in the shop the next time he visits. A series of follow up e-mails later, and here we are just a few days away from Ronn’s debut in Seattle as the bread baking winemaker.
Who better to talk yeast with than a winemaker? It works its magic in both bread and wine. However, based on Ronn’s experience it sounds like bread baking can be trickier. In fact, it took Ronn years before he realized the error of his ways when it came to trying to develop a crisp enough crust. So, Ronn’s demonstration will begin with a confessional, shedding light on what he did wrong so you don’t have to experience the same frustrations.
Ronn’s pursuit of the ultimate loaf led him to San Francisco where he learned the tricks of the trade from professionals. He will share these invaluable insights while yours truly pours complimentary tastes of the lastest releases from Walla Walla based Glencorrie Winery.
I’m eager to taste the latest vintage of the Cuvee Marquis. When Chef Wayne Johnson and Andaluca hosted Glencorrie for a wine maker dinner, the Cuvee was the star of the evening, pairing with absolutely every dish. At Dish it up! the next day it completely sold out.
The bread baking demo is FREE and tastes of the wine are COMPLIMENTARY.
Bread demo starts promptly at 6pm (Ronn sounds very serious about this!). Seating is available on a first come first served basis. The last loaf is scheduled to come out of the oven at 8pm.
During the demo, a complimentary wine tasting of Glencorrie’s latest releases will be offered featuring Stillwater Creek Merlot, Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cuvee Marquis.
If you prefer not to watch the demo, you may still stop by to taste and purchase the wines at sale prices.
