American Lamb Jam Review 2009

Lamb Jam

Lamb Jam

If you love lamb the way that I love lamb, I hope that you were at the first annual American Lamb Jam Seattle! Dine Around Seattle Chefs created succulent lamb dishes to pair with award winning Washington wines, to support the Fare Start organization.  The American Lamb Board sponsored this event, as well as the upcoming Dine Around Seattle for November 09.

Chef and wine pairings

Monsoon East paired Pho braised Lamb shank Fresh roll with Pho Gelee, Vermicelli Noodles, Micro Cilantro and Spicy Hoisin Condiment with Donedei Wines 2004 Columbia Valley Merlot. This was my favorite wine of the evening. This was a velvety smooth Washington Merlot.  Plush ripe fruit on the palate but this is not a fruit bomb. It has a nice acid balance. This wine was made from 100% free run juice. The wine was neither fined nor filtered, processes that rob the fruit from the wine.

Steelhead Diner paired Braised Lamb Shanks with Balsamic-Mission Fig Conserva and Truffled Hominy Polenta with McCrea Cellars Cuvée Orleans 2004 Syrah. This inky black Washington Syrah was co-fermented with Viognier. The blackberry fruit is lush but not overpowering, and accentuated with spice, chocolate and a hint of smoke. The tannins are soft but hold the structure well. The mouth feel is soft, full and luxurious.

Bell Harbor International Conference Center paired George O’Malley’s Guinness  & Jameson Braised Lamb Shank Cabbage Rolls paired with Efeste 2006 Syrah, BousheyVineyard, Yakima Valley.  This Washington Syrah was exceptionally smooth for an 06. This had a great silky mouth feel. Where as some Syrah is BIG and bold, this Syrah was more subtle. It’s sexiness was more of a flirt, like a wink or the batting of long eyelashes.
