The Sexy Syrah event, a fund raiser for the Fare Start organization, was held at Salty’s Restaurant in West Seattle. This fundraiser on Alkai was spectacular. I have never had a better chance to experience the amazing diversity of the Syrah wines. The gamut went from basket-press treats to sparkling syrahs from Australia and desert syrahs. The desert syrah was my final treat. Despite have my palate assaulted by these wonderful reds and the rich fare provided by Saltys, my favorite surprise was a wonderful white wine from Eaton Hills Winery. It was an orange muscat which had the amazing fragrance of both fruits and yet was wonderfully dry (1%). A GREAT wine to have during the upcoming warm (I hope) summer months.
The very kind woman serving Eaton’s wines informed me that it is a family run vineyard located in the Rattlesnake Hills wine region. It has been producing wine for over 20 years but is only now making an effort to market their wine in a broader range. They also make a orange muscat desert wine that I will have to go to Yakima to experience.
The best part was that we got to drink some great wines and taste some fantastic food, all for a good cause. The Fare Start organization trains disadvantaged adults job skills in the culinary arts.
