Each year, we celebrate Halloween by recalling the wines we sampled this past year that continued to haunt us long after the last sip. This year we are correcting the error of not including beer in the list of Washington beverages that continue to haunt us. The list includes Washington beer and wine from barrel, new releases and the depth of the cellar.

This year’s Wine Rocks moved to the Georgetown Ballroom. Initially disappointed that Wine Rocks Seattle wasn’t returning to the Hard Rock Cafe, I applauded the move. A great venue, the Georgetown Ballroom is in a historic and beautifully restored building that originally housed the Mission Theater, which opened in the 1920s. The Georgetown Ballroom’s outdoor courtyard was a big...

Auction of Washington Wine is a three day celebration and fundraiser that kicks off with the Barrel Auction and Picnic with Wine Makers.
This year, 20 wineries donated a barrel of their wine to the auction. Since each barrel is five cases of wine, there isn’t just one winner but five winners. The top 5 bidders for each barrel receive a case of that wine once it is bottled. The highest bidder...

A couple of weekends ago, the hubby and I finally had the pleasure of tasting some of the much lauded Walter Dacon Wines. Part of the fun of tasting these Washington wines was that we sampled two of the Walter Dacon Syrahs side by side – the 2007 C’est Syrah Beaux, and the 2007 C’est Syrah Magnifique. The challenge? To ascertain which had been aged in American oak, and which had been aged...

I first tried the Walter Dacon 2008 Roussanne a week ago and must here and now acknowledge Vivian’s thorough understanding of my not-so-hidden wine desires (note to self: bring drool towel at next event). This Washington Roussanne was paired with a fantastic dish that would go well with a Riesling, Gewurztraminer or other white wine that is somewhat sweet. The tasty noodle salad consisted of...
