Lake City Elliott Bay Brewing Open House

Last Saturday was the third annual Washington Beer Open House. Over 50 breweries participated but circumstances necessitated that I just visit one that day. I went down to my neighborhood pub, Lake City Elliott Bay Brewing.  Elliott Bay Brewing has three neighborhood pubs: Burien, Lake City and West Seattle. Each pub makes beer so at each open house they were pouring two beers from each brewpub. Alki... read more

Belgianfest 2013: Bigger and Better

Belgianfest 2013 was a dream day for sour beer lovers. I think there was close to twice the number of sour beers than at prior Belgianfests.  As a sour beer lover, I was a very happy girl. This was the 4th annual belgianfest and I think it was the Washington Beer Commission’s ‘best one yet. Previous Belgianfests were really crowded but this second year at the Bell Harbor Conference Center was a... read more

Lake City IPA: Hoppy Session IPA

The Lake City IPA from Elliott Bay Brewing is an opaque deep amber color brew with pleasing hop bite upfront. This brew is balanced by the malty smoothness before settling in for a lingering and bitter ride on the finish. Crafted with the classic “3 C’s”: Cascade hops Centennial hops Chinook hops This Washington IPA pays tribute to piney resins on the finish but unlike many Northwest... read more

Lake City Elliott Bay Brew Pub Sneak Peak

How excited is Lake City to have a brew pub? If the line snaking out to the parking lot for the Elliott Bay Brew Pub sneak peak was a clue, you would guess that they are pretty excited! The second annual Washington Brewery Open House was February 25, 2012 and Elliott Bay Brewing opened up the loading dock doors for a glimpse and a taste. With plans to officially open in late March, the brewpub is... read more

Washington Beer Commission Cask Fest 2010 Review

Over forty different Washington breweries were represented and the variety of beers and ales was wide at this year’s Washington Cask Beer Festival on March 27th. Both Jonathan and I absolutely loved Big Time Brewery‘s The Big Dance Imperial Amber and rated it as our number one brew at the Cask Beer Fest. It was a sweet ale (too sweet for some) but we thought the malty sweetness was really... read more

Noäel Holiday Ale: Elliott Bay Brewery

On Tuesday, Elliot Bay Brewery released Noäel Holiday Ale. Ed and I are huge fans of seasonal beers and of Elliot Bay Brewery, but this one wasn’t making the cut for either of us.  The Noäel Holiday Ale is a deep and dark unfiltered organic wheat beer.  The slightly sour notes, common in an unfiltered beer, are some of my favorite flavors in a beer.  I loved the way this beer starts out in my... read more

Elliott Bay Brewery Cask Conditioned Hop Scotch Ale

During dinner at the West Seattle Elliott Bay Brewery tonight, I had the opportunity enjoy a schooner of their cask conditioned Hop Scotch Ale. Lip-smackingly delicious…sweet and smooth on the palate with subtle smokey notes. This Washington cask conditioned beer was served at almost room temperature, allowing all sorts of delicious aromas to waft pleasantly. This year’s batch of this seasonal... read more

Elliott Bay Brewery- Celebrating Hops!

This week Elliott Bay Brewery is celebrating the mighty hop with a number of special hoppy IPAs, and special IPA/food pairings on their menu.  We  had the Hail to the Hop sampler and the cilantro pesto salmon with angel hair pasta and sauteed vegetables. Hop Von Boorian: This is a cloudy pale golden Washington brew, reminiscent of a hefeweisen. It has a fruity forward taste that rapidly evolves in to... read more

Washington Brewers Fest – Day Two

The sun blessed us on Saturday, the second day of the Washington Brewer’s Fest at St. Edwards park. A crew of four today, we started the day with the Georgetown Brewery‘s special WABL only brew Lisa’s “The sun is trying to kill me” Chocolate Stout.  We have very different beer palates, but this was one of the few beers that we all liked. I knew that this a Jeremy beer through... read more
