In celebration of the 10th Annual Washington Brewers Festival, brewers decided to come together to craft a special commemorative beer, Brewers from five Washington state breweries, who volunteer on the Washington Beer Commission’s Festival Committee, joined forces to make this thirst quenching craft beer. Brewers from Fremont, Elysian, Beardslee, Diamond Knot and Two Beers breweries...

Saturday May 12, 2012 was the first annual Sip & Slurp: Beer & Oyster Pairing Competition. Wine World (blog sponsor) and Taylor Shellfish teamed with breweries to offer this tasty and fun event for Seattle Beer Week.
The classic beer pairing with oysters is a stout or porter. On our advice, Wine World sought out a diverse assortment of beers with an emphasis on Washington beers. 17 beers were...

Pike Brewing’s Annual Chocofest continues to charm me. How can it not – it’s all about CHOCOLATE! Throw in the hospitality of Rose Anne and Charles Finkel, top that off with the addition of specialty brews incorporating chocolate, proceeds from the event benefiting Seattle job training program FareStart and you’ve got an event that remains tops in my book. If you missed out this year, not to worry....

Last month, Vivian and I had the pleasure of attending the third annual Rails to Ales Brewfest in Cle Elum. I have been wanting to check out this brewfest for a couple of years but I have had a difficult time enticing someone to cross the mountains with me to drink beer. After attending Rails to Ales once, I don’t think I will have that problem again. I think Rails to Ales is a perfect example of a...

Over forty different Washington breweries were represented and the variety of beers and ales was wide at this year’s Washington Cask Beer Festival on March 27th.
Both Jonathan and I absolutely loved Big Time Brewery‘s The Big Dance Imperial Amber and rated it as our number one brew at the Cask Beer Fest. It was a sweet ale (too sweet for some) but we thought the malty sweetness was really...

Brian Sollenberger, the founder of Diamond Knot Brewery, died suddenly last night. He passed just hours after the memorial for Dick Young of Dick’s Brewery. This is the third memorial post that I have written for a Washington Brewer in the last six months and this is the most difficult one to write.
Brian Sollenberger and I were aware of each other but didn’t really start to get to know each...

Gusto! Celebrating the Best of Northwest Food, Wine, and Microbrews is an annual fundraising event for the Everett Community College Foundation, to fund scholarships as well as provide program and equipment support. It was an incredible evening of great Washington beer, wine and food, for only $40 per person. Given the quality of the fare and the fact that this was a charity event, I was amazed at how...

Bean and I are here at Diamond Knot Brewery for the closing night of their 15th anniversary party. Tonight, they are pouring a vertical tasting of their Winter HoHo 2005-2008, but the kegs aren’t going to be tapped until 6pm. That was the bad news, the good news is that they still had the special anniversary beers from Wednesday night available: Diamond Knot Brewery’s 06 Shipwreck IPA and...

On the fourth night of the Diamond Knot Brewery Anniversary party, they were pouring the 2007 Slane’s Irish Ale and the 2006 Shipwreck IPA. We missed the party that night but we were lucky enough to catch these two beers the next night.
For those of you who dislike the bitter hops of IPAs, you may appreciate this Washington beer with a long malt finish. Bean did not like this and complained about a...
