Bastille Day marks the release of one of our favorite beers, the Black Raven Brewery La Petite Mort.
This nutty brown ale is as pretty as the globetrotter it is served in. It is a big, boozy, yet balanced brew.
The guy next to me thinks it is too big and chewy in the mouth but I disagree. At 8.8% it is a big beer and that big mouth feel reminds you to sip and savor this Washington beer.

The solstice not only heralds summer but it also brings us some of our favorite Washington beers: Old Sol and Wisdom Seeker.
Every year, Big Time Brewery release their eagerly anticipated Old Sol wheat wine on the summer solstice. Old Sol is crafted in the style of a barley wine but with wheat. Think of it as your summer version of barley wine. Like most wines, including barley wines, the Old Sol...

Last night was a great time to be drinking beer in the park, especially when we are talking the opening night for the Washington Brewers Festival at St Edwards Park. The sun was shining, the beer was cold, except for the cask conditioned brews :-P, and the crowds were big enough to give it a party like atmosphere but small enough that most of the beer lines were manageable. Friday nights are known to...

W ashington Beer Commission’s 2nd annual Belgianfest was a showcase for Washington brewers’ skill and creativity in crafting Belgian style brews. Although last year’s inaugural Belgianfest was relatively small, this year’s boasted a bigger location, more brewers and more beer!
Even with a bigger location at Magnuson Park, both tasting sessions of Belgianfest 2011 sold out. It was...

Every Wednesday, Black Raven Brewery taps a special cask at 4pm. These casks are often extremely popular and you are well advised to get there early to make sure to get some before the cask runs dry.
On August 4th, the featured cask was the “Scotchster” and the description was more than enough to make me hop in my car and drive around the lake.

Geoff at Seattle Beer News broke the new first about Black Raven Brewery losing their trademark case on 6/21/10. Black Raven Brewing has been trying for two years to trademark their brewery name but their attempts to do so have been blocked by Ravenwood winery which currently holds the trademark for Ravenwood, Raging Raven and Ravens. OK I get the first two, the name of their winery and I presume the name...
