Car Wash and Trickster?!?

I just bought Black Raven Trickster IPA at a car wash. I’ll let that sink in a bit. I remember when I would have to get a ride around the lake or wait for a beer fest to taste Black Raven beer. I remember talking to Beaux and Nigel in the early days about the mere possibility of Black Raven beer in bottles and being met with shrugs and head shakes no. Then, it happened! Black Raven bottled! Raise... read more

Do you have YOUR bottles of Black Raven Unabridged yet?

On Monday, Black Raven Brewing released UNABRIDGED, an eagerly anticipated collaboration brew with Stone Brewing. The Unabridged is a wine barrel aged Saison with sumo mandarin oranges and acacia. The above is an accurate description of this Washington beer but it doesn’t do this delicious saison any justice. Light golden in color, this is a dry and refreshing beer. Traditionally saison were the... read more

Brouwers Big Wood Beer 2013

Size does matter when it comes to Big Wood. Every year, Brouwer’s Cafe celebrates the beauty and brawn of barrel aged beer. Big Wood kicks off on December 5th at 11:00 am and continues through the weekend. At the opening bell, Brouwers will have up to 60 taps of barrel aged beers. As the weekend progresses barrel aged taps will be replaced by other kegs but some special, extremely limited kegs will... read more

Cask Beer Festival 2013

The 2013 Cask Festival continues to be one of the best annual beer events to attend. Amazing varieties of exotic brews that exhibited the great skill of our Pacific Northwest Brew Masters. The Bell Harbor venue was excellent. One major, awesome attribute that I would give this event is that many of the beers were served at an excellent temperature, one that exemplified the notes or their respective... read more

New at Washington Brewer Festival 2012

Every year there are new surprises at the Washington Beer Commission Brewer’s Festival. This year is no different with new breweries, new food vendors, new activities and of course new Washington beers! The big news is the move of the Washington Brewers’ Festival to Marymoor Park in Redmond. St Edwards Park was a well loved location for previous brewfests, except for the limited parking and no... read more

Belgianfest 2012

The Washington Beer Commission’s third annual Belgian Fest was held this past weekend at Bell Harbor Center on Pier 66. Bean, Jonathan and I attended on a beautiful Saturday afternoon making it heartbreaking to be indoors. An amazing array of delicious brews assuaged our discontent especially as the average ABV was around 9%. The venue was very nice and a much needed improvement from prior... read more

Death comes again, La Petite Mort

La Petite Mort means a little death, but if you are a Black Raven Brewery fan it means a beer orgasm. Especially after that La Petite Mort has taken up residence in a bourbon barrel.  Since 2009, Black Raven has released La Petite Mort on Bastille day. Some of this nutty brown ale is aged in bourbon barrels and released in December. The bourbon barrel aged La Petite Mort is a Christmas tradition at Wine... read more

Beer and Wines that Haunt

Each year, we celebrate Halloween by recalling the wines we sampled this past year that continued to haunt us long after the last sip. This year we are correcting the error of not including beer in the list of Washington beverages that continue to haunt us. The list includes Washington beer and wine from barrel, new releases and the depth of the cellar.  Washington Beer Black Raven La... read more
