Size does matter when it comes to Big Wood. Every year, Brouwer’s Cafe celebrates the beauty and brawn of barrel aged beer. Big Wood kicks off on December 5th at 11:00 am and continues through the weekend. At the opening bell, Brouwers will have up to 60 taps of barrel aged beers. As the weekend progresses barrel aged taps will be replaced by other kegs but some special, extremely limited kegs will...

Naked City Brewery hosted the October WABL event, Seahawks Monday night football in their screening room October 28, 2013. it was a celebration of great Washington beer and well, I will let you describe the football game in your own words.
Naked City’s Oude Houten Houten Kop is a brooding strong Golden Belgian ale. In appearance, this Golden Belgian Ale is anything but golden. It is as opaque and...

Highlights from the first day at the Washington Brewers Fest at Marymoore park can help you plan your weekend AND make you want to kick yourself for missing Friday night!
This was the second year that the Brewer’s Fest will be at Marymoor park. The grass is much more even than last year, but you will want to leave your heels at home. Bring your sunscreen instead. I managed to get sun burnt Friday...

Last Saturday was the third annual Washington Beer Open House. Over 50 breweries participated but circumstances necessitated that I just visit one that day. I went down to my neighborhood pub, Lake City Elliott Bay Brewing.
Elliott Bay Brewing has three neighborhood pubs: Burien, Lake City and West Seattle. Each pub makes beer so at each open house they were pouring two beers from each brewpub.

Belgianfest 2013 was a dream day for sour beer lovers. I think there was close to twice the number of sour beers than at prior Belgianfests. As a sour beer lover, I was a very happy girl. This was the 4th annual belgianfest and I think it was the Washington Beer Commission’s ‘best one yet. Previous Belgianfests were really crowded but this second year at the Bell Harbor Conference Center was a...

The big news is the move of the Washington Brewers’ Festival to Marymoor Park in Redmond. St Edwards Park was a well loved location for previous brewfests, except for the limited parking and no...

It all began with a bus ride 11 days ago to four Seattle Beer Week kick off parties and concluded with the Brewer’s Hangover Brunch and BBQ at Malt and Vine. In between, I enjoyed two brewer’s dinners, beer and oysters, brewery competitions, two beer classes, special beer releases and many, many glasses of beer and over 20 different events! I managed to take a bunch of pictures and take a lot...

The 4th annual Seattle Beer Week started off with a bang and FOUR kick off parties!
Ed and I started our night out at the Elysian for the Mayor’s proclamation and the tapping of the official 2012 Seattle Beer Week beer, the Elysian Slip Shot Espresso Stout. We had are unofficial start to Seattle Beer Week with a bottle of Slip Shot with our lunch earlier that day, but I am a sucker for a fresh brew...

The Washington Beer Commission’s third annual Belgian Fest was held this past weekend at Bell Harbor Center on Pier 66. Bean, Jonathan and I attended on a beautiful Saturday afternoon making it heartbreaking to be indoors. An amazing array of delicious brews assuaged our discontent especially as the average ABV was around 9%. The venue was very nice and a much needed improvement from prior...

La Petite Mort means a little death, but if you are a Black Raven Brewery fan it means a beer orgasm. Especially after that La Petite Mort has taken up residence in a bourbon barrel. Since 2009, Black Raven has released La Petite Mort on Bastille day. Some of this nutty brown ale is aged in bourbon barrels and released in December. The bourbon barrel aged La Petite Mort is a Christmas tradition at Wine...
