Last summer Seattle saw the arrival of wineries normally associated with a 5+ hour drive to Walla Walla. We’re talking Rôtie Cellars, Waters Winery, and Sleight of Hand Cellars. They moved into SODO Urban Works which was already home to one of our favorite email wine purveyors, Full Pull, as well as Kerloo Cellars and Structure Cellars. Just 10 minutes south of downtown Seattle, all these fantastic tasting rooms reside in one destination with – drumroll please – free parking!
Oh, and let’s not forget the beer. Schooner Exact Brewing Co. is part of the mix. Not only do they have 6 full-time taps and 6 rotating seasonals as well as cider, they’ve got some pretty tasty food.
Then, they all got together and had a big party. What could be better? Perhaps the second SODO Block Party at SODO Urban Works coming August 26.
Yvonne Davis of Kerloo Cellars explains,
“Our SoDo Block Party is the original and first of its kind with our unique group of premium Washington wineries located in the heart of SoDo.”
New This Year
This summer, Den Hoed Wine Estates and Nine Hats Wines are opening tasting rooms at SODO Urban Works. They’re both slated to participate in the Block Party.
Also, Jamie Brown of Waters Winery revealed,
“We’ll have a VIP option that folks can pay for above the complex wide pass that gets you two tastes at all locations. VIP wines will include library and 21 Grams.” That’s right, he said 21 Grams. I get weak in the knees just thinking about it.
The other two elements that differentiate from last year’s block party are the food trucks and music. All ten venues will feature live music. Waters has Thaddeus Turner (formerly of Mak Tub) band Thadillac performing at 6:30 pm.
