La Petite Mort means a little death, but if you are a Black Raven Brewery fan it means a beer orgasm. Especially after that La Petite Mort has taken up residence in a bourbon barrel. Since 2009, Black Raven has released La Petite Mort on Bastille day. Some of this nutty brown ale is aged in bourbon barrels and released in December. The bourbon barrel aged La Petite Mort is a Christmas tradition at Wine Beer Washington, one that we eagerly await. Although usually available in time for the Winter Brewfest, Beaux told me it wasn’t done yet. A Christmas without bourbon barrel aged La Petite Mort? I felt like Santa Claus left me coal in my stocking!

I was excited to see that the bourbon barrel aged La Petite Mort made it onto the 2012 Belgiumfest line up. Unfortunately, it was so popular that the cask had run dry before I could get back there. Ed graced me with a sip from his glass of La Petite Mort but that was the only taste I got.
Belgianfest was just a tease. The 2011 Bourbon Barrel Aged La Petite Mort will be released in the Black Raven Brewery Taproom on Valentines Day, Tuesday February 14, 2012. Celebrate with a much beloved beer! This is one of those beers that continue to haunt us
, long after the glass is empty.
This is a limited taproom release. No kegs to go or growlers will be available.
