The Local Vine is pleased to announce TWO great Washington wine tasting opportunities on Thursday night, 3/25/10. Please join us as we taste wines with Chad Johnson, wine maker from Winery of the Year Dusted Valley Vintners and participate in the national Tweetup for Washington Merlot!
Washington Merlot Tweetup: 5-7pm
In collaboration with Sean Sullivan, Washington Wine Report and the crew here at Wine Beer Washington, The Local Vine will hosting a tweetup as part of the nation wide Twitter event to increase awareness and appreciation of Washington Merlot. Join the conversation and raise a glass as we reclaim the marvelous Merlot from the disparaging comment in the movie Sideways. Washington provides the ideal climate and conditions for growing Merlot grapes. This fruit, in the hands of talented wine makers around Washington state, can be transformed into an elegant sipping wine, a fantastic pairing wine or a great wine to kick back and enjoy at a party.
What is a wine tweetup?
Wine tweetups can vary. Some are informal gatherings, using Twitter to gather like-minded wine lovers to meet somewhere to enjoy some wine. Twitter devices tend to be put away once the bottles open. On the other end of the spectrum are invitation only events where selected people use the power of Twitter to spread the word about the wines. These promotional events are usually held amongst cameras, laptops and cell phones. At this tweet up for #WAMerlot, it is about the wine and the conversation. Think part traditional wine tasting, part party and part social media.
Cole Sission, Sommelier and wine buyer at The Local Vine is assembling a line up of Washington Merlot for us to taste as we join online with wine lovers across the nation. We will have the Twitter stream projected on the wall so you can follow along with the conversation. If you are on Twitter, please tweet along. No Twitter account is required. We will have computers set up and a joint tasting Twitter account. We invite you to share your opinions or have any questions for the Merlot wine makers that will be online that night. Any of the Wine Beer Washington crew will be happy to assist you!
