Celebrate Walla Walla Valley Wine: The World of Syrah was an activity packed three days that compared the similarities and differences of the Walla Walla Valley with the world’s leading wine regions. When you are talking about Syrah, you are talking about terroir and the Walla Walla Valley AVA has some very special terroir for Syrah.
And the people came to talk, listen, learn and taste Walla Walla Syrah. Wine lovers traveled from more than 20 states and provinces throughout the United States and Canada to the sold-out event. Ed and I personally met two lovely couples during Vintage Pour that traveled all the way from Florida to learn more about Washington Syrah.
Celebrate Walla Walla is a social and educational global wine event providing a range of opportunities to listen, learn and taste with fellow wine lovers and to meet wine makers. 56 wineries participated in this year’s event, pouring almost 300 wines. Most of the wines were Syrah but other varieties rounded out the experience and showed wine maker style and the terroir as well. Nearly 600 guests attended special tastings of rare vintage wines, educational seminars and talks, and one-of-a-kind winemaker dinners during the weekend’s three event-filled days during June 15-17, 2017.
Ed and I were fortunate enough to be part of Celebrate Walla Walla: The World of Syrah and attended all of the major events:
Vintage Pour – Library tasting of Walla Walla wines.
The World of Syrah Kick-off Event – Overview of the World of Syrah.
Winemaker Panel Presentations and Tastings – Seven Syrah winemakers from around the world talk about terroir and their wines.
Syrah Grand Tasting and Winemaker dinner – A grand tasting of wines from Walla Walla wine makers followed by a large Winemaker dinner at Whitman College
Saturday Winemaker dinner – A more intimate winemaker dinner with three winemakers, at one of their locations
We will be writing up each of the events, letting you experience Celebrate Walla Walla: The World of Syrah 2017 through us. We will let you know what we learned about Syrah and what we thought were some of the highlights. Reading about it won’t taste as good but I bet it will inspire you to buy a bottle of Syrah or open one of the bottles in your cellar!
