Old Sol is a gorgeous amber colored nectar. Mere mortals may call it a wheat wine but barley wine aficionados call it yummy. This is a barley wine style ale designed for summer drinking. The 2009 vintage was released today.
Old Sol is potent brew served in snifters on draft or available in 22 oz bottles for a limited time only.
This not a quaffing beer, it begs to be sipped and savored. It has a rich and complex malty flavor with a refreshing hop nip to it. This is a smooth drinker but it packs a punch. Once again Bill has demonstrated his skill in creating an exceptionally well balanced brew that can please both malt and hop fans. There is enough resinous flavor to please the hop people but it doesn’t overwhelm the more subtle flavors.
As a wheat wine, this brew can be cellared. During Seattle Beer Week, Ed enjoyed the vertical flight of Old Sol. He is hoping for the opportunity to try the 2009 version with the others, if still available.
