30th Anniversary Snow Cap

30th Anniversary Snow Cap

Whereas most winter ales are all about the malts, the Pyramid Brewers know that beer is about the hops. Pyramid’s Snow Cap Winter Warmer is no exception and is strongly rooted in hops. Inspired by British winter ales, the Pyramid Snow Cap boasts a rich malty nose.  Think of chocolate covered caramels and you know what the Snow Cap Winter Warmer ale smells like. Caramel and toffee coat your tongue briefly in this medium bodied beer then it is all about the hops.

“Snow Cap is kettle-hopped with the three Pacific Northwest varieties Nugget, Willamette, and East Kent Goldings,” said Head Brewer Ryan Pappe. “Beer enthusiasts will love the delicate taste of malt notes infused into the brew with a blend of pale, caramel and chocolate malts.”

The Snow Cap Winter Warmer Ale is best enjoyed at cellar temperature versus refrigerator temperature. drinking it slightly warmer brings out its aromas and flavors. It is a good brew to kick back with on a cold and rainy evening with.  I really enjoyed it with some left over Pomegranate glazed squash from Thanksgiving. The tangy pomegranate molasses,  baking spices and roasted chestnuts played off both the sweet and bitter elements of this Washington Winter Warmer ale. Snow Cap would have been a great Thanksgiving beer. Something to remember for next year!

The Super Snow Cap is one of four Pyramid Brewers’ Reserve brews. This Imperial Winter Warmer is amped up with more spice, fruit notes and sweetness and more hops.  Usually this special reserve seasonal is only available on draft, but this year you can buy it in 22 oz bomber bottles!

A year in the making and planned to glorify Snow Cap’s 30th Anniversary: Bourbon Barrel-Aged Snow Cap. Last year’s Snow Cap Winter Warmer was aged for 10 months in Old Forester bourbon barrels and then carefully blended with Super Snow Cap. Lush, luscious and flavorful this version of Snow Cap will delight both beer and bourbon lovers. The 22 oz bottles are sold in premium packaging perfect for gift giving.

Bottled Snow Cap is available at Pyramid Ale Houses and Pacific Northwest Grocers.
