Pike Entire: Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout
Pike Brewing Co celebrates their anniversary by releasing their Pike Entire. The 2009 Pike Entire was released during their 20th Anniversary party last night. I have a serious thing going for bourbon barrel aged stouts and I was really looking forward to tasting this one.
I loved how this beer started out. It was big and bold with the smooth mouth feel of a great bourbon. Then the coffee kicked in. If you have been reading this blog for any length of time, you will know that I don’t do coffee as a beverage on its own and certainly not in my beer. I sipped it for awhile, hoping that it would grow me but once I hooked up with the Pike Triple Kriek, I couldn’t go back. My drinking partner thought it was a bit too much like toffee but that was the aspect of this Washington stout that I appreciated the most. I liked the tinge of toffee and I liked the bourbon flavors on this beer, it was the coffee finish that just wasn’t my thing. If you are a coffee stout lover, then you will probably love this beer.
Pike Entire: This marks this years official release for the 2009 Pike Entire. A special Pike Imperial Stout aged in oak Bourbon barrels for 7 months and then blended back in with our Pike XXXXX Stout. This brew sold out in 4 days last year. Come taste it before it is released to the market.
I really wish Ed could have made the Pike Brewing Co anniversary party because I think he would have lapped this stout up like mother’s milk.
