Big Al Brewery’s Watermelon Sour beer has a surprising deep amber color, the flavor surprises as well. Sour but not overwhelming. Even Ed liked this one. The surprise comes in the spice. Think sour and savory beer vs sweet and sour candy. The watermelon flavor is subtle and it reminds me of eating watermelon in Asia or Mexico where the melon is often salted and/or spiced.
The 4th Anniversary WABL party is always an opportunity to taste a lot of unusual and one-off beers. This is an opportunity for the Washington Beer Commission to show appreciation to its beer lovers and they don’t disappoint. Of course, I headed straight for the sour beer.
