What does a Giant Pacific Octopus have to do with Washington wine? For me, it is just one of the wine moments that I had at 2009 Debut and Discoveries. It probably has something to do with the fact that I was meeting English Darby and tasting Darby wines, while that octopus was clearly looking at me in envy. Debut and Discoveries is an opportunity to make wine memories with the future of the Washington wine industry in an unique setting.
Debut and Discoveries is a party to celebrate and welcome some of Washington’s newest wineries. Enjoy the new Window on Washington Waters exhibit at the Seattle Aquarium while sipping your new favorite Washington wine. Nibble on tasty treats while savoring wine with your friends. Listen to the live music by Zael Zura and make your own wine memories all while supporting Surfrider Foundation, “dedicated to the protection and preservation of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches“.
Washington currently boasts over 700 wineries and Debuts and Discoveries is a great place to sample the up and coming wineries from all over the state. Some of the wineries pouring this year are about to graduate from the “new” status while other wineries will be pouring their freshman wine releases. I have tasted some of these freshman wines on wine country trips but I am excited to be able to taste wines from these wineries side by side.
Come and meet some of the new women Washington wine makers like Rachael Horn from Aniche Cellars whose passion is wine blends. A new winery doesn’t mean simple wines, be sure to check out Glencorrie for big and complex red wines. Washington isn’t best known for their sparkling wines but Treveri Cellars is trying to change that with their exclusive line up of sparkling wines. I am hoping that they are pouring their unique and delicious sparkling Gewurztraminer.
I am excited to see which new winery captures my attention this year!
