Washington Beer Commission Oktoberfest: Its About the Beer

Golden Hills Brewing

Golden Hills Brewing Lager

Oktoberfest returns to Spokane, September 23-24, 2011. The Washington Beer Commission is charged with promoting Washington craft beers throughout the state, so they have worked towards creating fun festivals featuring Washington craft beer in various parts of the state. Last year the Washington Beer Commission Oktoberfest settled in Spokane after years of wandering the Puget Sound area. The move to Spokane recognizes the brewers and the beer lovers of the Inland Empire. The Spokane Oktoberfest is a unique opportunity to taste beers crafted in Pullman, Spokane, Waitsburg as well as some of your favorite Seattle based breweries. Unlike some other Oktoberfest events, the Spokane Oktoberfest isn’t about seeing about how much you can drink but how many great beers can you taste. This is the Oktoberfest for beer geeks!

Lederhosen and steins at Oktoberfest

CI Shenanigans and Alpine Brewing

Last year’s Spokane Oktoberfest was a celebration of beer and Oktoberfest traditions. Expect lots of lederhosen and very short dirdnl skirts,  Bavarian music and German food. You will probably get really good at the chicken dance too! Spokane Oktoberfest looks to be a great time of music, food, fun and of course BEER!

Spokane knows how to throw a party in the beautiful Riverfront park, but the star attraction is the beer. Twenty two breweries from all over the  Washington state, will be pouring over  55 different beers.

From  Oktoberfest brews to winter ales to pumpkin beers to crisp lagers to bold winter ales to sunny Hefeweizen beers, there will be Washington beers to please any palate. If you are a hop monster or a malt maven there will be beers that will capture your attention. I have a lot of people ask me about gluten free beers and I will be trying my first Washington gluten-free beer, Gluten-Free IPA, from Northern Ales.  I also can’t wait to try Two Beers Fresh Hops 2011 and the great looking assortment of pumpkin beers.
