I love wine blends. The winemaker that can skillfully blend wines is part artist and part scientist, but wine blends are often mistaken as lower quality wines. BLEND is going to shatter that myth and you can help.

Simply tell us about your favorite wine blend here in the comments before midnight Friday, September 3rd. We will  use  handy random number generator to select one of the comments as the winner. The winner receives TWO free tickets to BLEND at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center on September 12th!

Immediately before the big event, there are two hands-on blending seminars from 2:30-4pm. You can learn about the art of wine blending while creating and judging wine blends. We will be giving away one free seminar ticket. You choose which of the two sessions you want to attend:

  • Blending with Chateau Ste. Michelle
Participate in the hands-on red wine blending process of small wine lots with the different wine tiers of Chateau Ste. Michelle
  • Seminar 2: Blend – Inspiration, Experience, Intuition with Columbia Winery
Participate in a hands-on blending session using the five Bordeaux grapes varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Malbec).

Enter this contest by spreading the word about the contest via Twitter. Just be sure to include the hashtag #WinBlend to make sure your tweets are included in the drawing.  One tweet will be randomly selected on Friday at midnight.

My favorite blend by far is the Andrew Will Ciel Du Cheval. Cab Franc, Merlot, Cab Sauv with a splash of Petite Verdot. Yum.

    Hi Bean –
Please do not include me in the contest, as I can not attend. But I love field blends in which the blend is consituted of whatever vines were planted together. My best example is the Ridge Geyserville zinfandel which this year is 72% zinfandel, 20% carignane, 6% petite sirah, and 2% mataro. Just delicious.

  3. Camaraderie Cellars Gráce is an incredible wine from a sleepy winery on the Olympic Peninsula. I highly recommend making the trip to the winery to pick up a bottle or two. The wine maker, Don, truly enjoys his craft as well as his incredible gardens. Their label design is beautiful too! 🙂

My favorite Washington State blends come from Betz Family Winery in Woodinville. But if had to choose a favorite blend (kind of like choosing a favorite child), it would be the Besoleil, a wonderfully balanced aromatic blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre. YUM!!

  5. John Carroz says:

I love blends with Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. My wife and I recently tasted our way through Walla Walla and were floored by the quality of the wines from one winery to the next. I grew up around Napa and I don’t think they are nearly as consistent as the Walla Walla wineries. It was an awesome weekend.

To be honest, I don’t know much about blended wines, but would really love to attend this event to learn more about them!!
