Ready, Set, Syrah part 2!

We enjoyed one of our best ever Twitter Taste Live line ups last week with Ready, Set, Syrah part 1, hosted by Hospice du Rhone. It was a great time with real time conversation with tasters and Syrah producers around the world. Special appreciation to the South African wine makers that got up before the crack of dawn to get on Twitter Taste Live with us!

On Tuesday, December 15th, we continue on our Rhone adventure with Ready, Set, Syrah part 2. Whereas part 1 featured Australia and South Africa, part 2 will feature California and the Rhone Valley Syrah.  Here is the list of wines that we will be tasting:

  • 2007 Tercero Larner Vineyard Syrah, Santa Ynez Valley
  • 2006 JC Cellars Syrah, Haley’s Reserve, Rockpile Vineyard, Rockpile
  • 2006 Ortman Family Vineyards Syrah, Paso Robles
  • 2005 Domaine François Villard Rouge Les Reflets, St Joseph, France
  • 2006 Domaine François Villard Mairlant Rouge, St Joseph, France

We will be modifying our standard “share and pair’ format of food pairing for our Taste Live events. Normally, everyone brings some tasty food to pair with one of the wines.  But in light of it’s early start time on a work day and the holidays,  those that can bring something to pair are encouraged to do so and if you can’t we will have a donation jar to help us cover food expenses. If you do decide to bring something, let us know in the comments section.

You don’t need to have a Twitter account to participate, you can chime in on our special Twitter account for tastings. Just join in on the conversation. We will be projecting the tweets from tasters around the globe on the classroom screen.  Follow Hospice du Rhone’s Ready, Set, Syrah List to follow the participating wine producers.

So why in the world is Wine-Beer-Washington promoting an event featuring California and French wines? Because Ready, Set and Syrah part 3 will feature Washington wines! Date and details yet to be determined.

    I’ll be there, and will bring some food to pair – probably including the plum/quince paste from the Cheese Cellar that worked well last time!

    I’m looking forward to it and would like to bring some gruyere toasts with carmelized onions.

    Part 1 was a great! Very cool to have the world connected, world wine maps on the walls, and the Twitter action on the big screen. At the end, Reggie Daigenault, who is working on her Masters of Wine and director of the Northwest Wine Academy, was able to join us to swirl, sniff, swish and spit.

    I hope to be there tomorrow night with some food of some kind.
